James A. Emanuel reads his poem "Emmett Till" (1963) in Paris on July 25, 2011 when a guest to Janet Hulstrand's American literature class "Paris: A Literary Adventure." Emmett Till was a 14-year-old boy who was mordered by white men for allegedly whistling at a white woman in Mississippi. This video was filmed by Gary Lee Kraut with permission of the poet. It accompanies an article on France Revisited, www.francerevisited.com, by Janet Hulstrand in which she tells about her encounters with James A.
