Fatoumata Diawara | From Paris Jazz Clubs to Stardom
Fatoumata Diawara is a truly amazing, multi-talented artist / singer, songwriter, dancer, musician and actress. Now to be sure Fatou has an extensive resumé but just a short time ago lucky Parisians could enjoy Fatou singing at the China Club, the Satelite or the local Sahel Festival..
While performing in Paris, Fatou met Cheikh Tidiane Seck the famed Malian musician and producer who invited her to travel with him back to Mali to work on two projects as background vocalist; 'Seya' the GRAMMY nominated album by Mali's star Oumou Sangaré and 'Red Earth' the GRAMMY winning Malian project by American jazz singer Dee Dee Bridgewater.
Afterwards, Oumou Sangaré introduced Fatoumata Diawara to World Circuit records where she recorded her first Ep Kanou and and her first cd “Fatou.” Fatoumata Diawara’s debut CD reached #1 on the world music charts and stayed there for six months. And as they say my friend, the rest, is history.
"Mali Blues" illustrates Mali’s rich musical culture. Alongside Fatoumata Diawara – the young shooting star of the global pop scene.
