Maya Angelou "On the Pulse of Morning" to Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings"

2,232

Maya Angelou (1928-2014), Poet Laureate, reads her poem "On the Pulse of Morning"

"On the Pulse of Morning" -- These powerfully transcendent words resonate deeply within each of us, reverberating throughout the country and around the world. They ring with the universal forces of truth and compassion; their clarion call appealing to our conscience and our humanity.

I created this video as a tribute from the inspiration of Maya Angelou, an outstanding force in the world, who lives on forever in our hearts.

Here, I've set her reading to the score by another inspiring leader from the world of music, Samuel Barber (1910-1981), a gay man who was also an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII. Thomas Schippers (1930-1977) conducts the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in Barber's "Adagio for Strings" (1936,38).

Onward and upward,
Ellison

Please note: The end credits on the video should read "Schippers" as the proper spelling. Sorry for the oversight. EH
